Exam Details

Preparing: What to Bring

  • Identification: Passport, Canadian Driver's License or Refugee Status Papers, Health Card or other health coverage if you have it

    • These should be valid and up-to-date. Email us at info@imemed.ca if you aren't sure about your ID.

  • Health questionnaire and personal information sheets: We will email these to you a few days before your appointment.

  • Official papers you may have received from Immigration Canada (or the government of New Zealand). For example

    • Refugee Protection Claimant document

    • Medical Report - Client Biodata and Summary Form - IMM 1017

  • A Translator if you don't speak or understand English

  • Payment: see our Prices page

  • For Immigration Medical Exams (not CUAET or ‘Streamlined IME’ exams)

    • Medication: the bottles themselves, or the names and dosages

    • Loose fitting clothing and short sleeves for your examination.

    • Glasses for the vision test (if you wear them)

    • Drink plenty of water before your visit. You will have to do a urine sample.

Examination Day

  • Our office provides free parking. We are also easily accessible by public transport.

  • Photographs of the applicant are taken by the doctor's staff. You don't need to bring photos.

  • Any other required testing depends on the age of the applicant and the type of test you are doing. You may be asked to complete:

    • A health questionnaire and a physical examination. For the physical exam, the doctor will listen to your heart and lungs, and examine your skin, among other things. You may have to change into an examination gown. We recommend you wear loose clothing.

    • Urine tests (age 5 and older) — note we do not test for blood in the urine. Women: this means you can do an exam at any time in your monthly cycle.

    • Chest x-rays (age 11 or older)

      • If you are pregnant, you may need to return for an x-ray when it is safer for the growing baby. This is a standard safety precaution for women who are pregnant. It won't affect the outcome of your immigration application. more info

    • Blood tests for syphilis, HIV and Creatinine (age 15 or older) -- No fasting is required.

  • We will provide you with a document that is your “Proof of Medical Exam.”

Submitting your file

  • We will submit your medical report to the government. We typically are able to send this online (via eMedical) within 7 days.

  • On the day after we have submitted your report, we will send you an email confirming submission.

  • If any of your tests are abnormal we will contact you.
